Earlier this year, I ditched and switched my makeup from the traditional, toxin-filled cosmetics available at drugstores and from prestigious brands in favor of the ever-affordable, non-toxic & beautiful cosmetics.
But finding brands & items I loved was a difficult challenge.
A few things I learned as I sought out clean makeup:
Don’t blindly trust a brand
Don’t blindly trust a store
Cosmetic companies have all sorts of ways they brand their makeup to appeal to us, but words like “natural” & “organic” do not mean much if it’s poison.
Brands I tried and products I liked & disliked:
Mineral Fusion: Liquid Foundation. This formula contains a potential neurotoxin. The formula is light weight, gives minimal coverage and did not stay on the entire day.
Honeybee Gardens: Powdered Foundation. This formula is a little gritty, not soft and buttery. Safe & nontoxic, I like this for dramatic looks.
L’Bri Cosmetics: Liquid Foundation. This formula is clumpy and not smooth, leaving in uneven and blotchy complexion.
L’Bri Cosmetics: Lipstick. This formula is creamy and thick, with bold color lasting 4+ hours.
Zao Organics: Liquid Foundation. This formula is completely non-toxic and silver is used to preserve it. Beautiful silky finish, buildable coverage, perfect shades. I use this daily, as I love it and it’s the ONLY non-toxic Liquid Foundation I’ve ever liked.
Burt’s Bees: Liquid Foundation. Unlike many of the companies products, this is a non-toxic formula. Coverage is extremely thin, the colors oxidize a little weird, and it’s extremely watery. Difficult to work with.
Burt’s Bees: Lipstick. Non-toxic and pretty in the tube, this formula is sheer and moves too much. Hard to wear.
Savvy Minerals: Powdered Foundation. This non-toxic formula is buttery soft and has a hint of shimmer, giving a light glowy effect. Buildable coverage, forgiving shades. I wear this daily.
Savvy Minerals: Eyeshadows. Buttery-soft & large sizes, these multi-task for highlighters, eyeliners, brow-fillers and more. My favorite eyeshadows.
Ecco Bella: Liquid Foundation. This is a water-based formula that is better than Burt’s Bees, but completely dissolves in water and doesn’t give lasting coverage.
I hope you enjoyed my honest reviews and if you have any questions, leave me a comment!
